Feature

Route Planning

Optimized route planning allows fleets to automatically generate the most efficient routes for each shift, day, or service window, balancing capacity, time windows, SLAs, and real-world constraints. Optimized routes align with operational priorities, enabling teams to deliver reliably at scale. Routes can be reoptimized in real time as circumstances change, such as a driver calling in sick, road closures, traffic spikes, and more.

Who it's for

Route optimization is for every operation that requires predictable, timely performance across multiple stop points or trips, and especially for complex and high-demand operations. It encompasses multi-drop routes, multimodal routes, and any specialty custom route requirements.

Key Benefits of using Route Planning software

Optimized route planning using the Autofleet route optimization engine helps fleets turn daily planning into a predictable, measurable advantage. By building routes that reflect real operational constraints and service commitments, teams can reduce cost and variability while improving customer outcomes.

Lower costs

Reduce empty miles and unnecessary drive time by building routes that minimize distance while respecting constraints.

Improved OTP and SLA compliance

Plan around time windows, service durations, and operational rules to make arrivals more consistent and predictable

Higher fleet utilization

Use available vehicles and drivers more efficiently by balancing workload across routes and avoiding under-filled capacity.

Reduce chaos and add predictability

Move from manual routing and spreadsheets to automated route generation to gain faster planning, and free dispatchers to focus on exceptions.

How Optimized Route Planning Works

Configure operational constraints

From Autofleet’s Control Center, define the KPIs and constraints that matter to your operation, such as vehicle capacity, shift hours, service times, required skills, depots, and time windows.

Import demand for the day

Load stops, jobs, or trip requests from your demand sources. Autofleet supports multiple demand sources, including order management systems, booking channels, demand aggregators, PDF or CSV files, email and on-demand requests, including apps and web portals.

Generate optimized routes

The Route Optimization Engine produces a route plan that matches the KPIs and constraints defined by the operation while meeting SLAs. That plan can later adapt in real time and accommodate on-demand requirements and real-world changes. Dispatchers can review the routing output, validate key exceptions, and publish routes to execution.

Execute with visibility and control

As routes execute, progress is tracked against the plan, enabling operations to spot risks early and intervene when needed. Post-execution analysis compares planned vs. actual routes, along with additional performance reports.

Reoptimize plans in real time

Autofleet Optimized Route Planning works in conjunction with Autofleet’s Reoptimization Engine to ensure the best plan is always in play. Reoptimizing routes to reflect the reality in the field, provide the most optimal route, and ensure SLA and KPIs are kept.
